The narrow-band quality of AMR-NB will be present in the AAC output. Re-encoding does not expand the frequency range.
For transcription, WAV is preferable to AAC as input for most speech-to-text services.

Will converting AMR to AAC make the audio sound better?
Not significantly. The source audio quality is determined by the AMR recording. Re-encoding to AAC changes the container and codec but cannot add frequency content that was not captured originally.
Does converting AMR to AAC lose quality?
Yes. Both are lossy formats. A second round of compression is applied. The quality difference is usually minor for voice recordings.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. FFmpeg runs in your browser via WebAssembly. Files are processed locally.
Why does the first conversion take longer?
The first conversion loads the FFmpeg WebAssembly binary. This takes a few seconds. Subsequent conversions are immediate.
Why does AAC encoding require Chrome?
AAC encoding uses the WebCodecs API, which is currently only available in Chromium-based browsers. Use MP3 output if you are on Firefox.
