What is TTA Player?
The TTA Player plays .tta files in your browser. Choose a True Audio file, wait for the FFmpeg decoder to load, and press play. Multichannel files are downmixed to stereo, and the decoded audio plays through the Web Audio player with standard controls.
How does TTA Player work?
TTA (True Audio) is a lossless audio codec. It compresses PCM audio without discarding any samples, so a decoded .tta file matches the original recording. Browsers have no TTA decoder, so this tool loads FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, decodes the stream with FFmpeg's tta decoder, and converts it to 16-bit PCM.
The PCM is resampled to 44.1 kHz and downmixed to two channels before it reaches the player. Nothing is written back to your file.
Key Features
- Decodes TTA with the FFmpeg tta decoder
- Opens lossless True Audio files with the .tta extension
- Downmixes multichannel audio to stereo
- Output is 16-bit PCM at 44.1 kHz
- Play, pause, and seek controls
- Decoding runs in WebAssembly on your device
Common Use Cases
Check a lossless rip before archiving
Play a .tta file from a CD rip to confirm the track is complete and free of glitches.
Open a TTA file on a machine without the codec
Listen on a Mac or Chromebook where no installed player recognizes True Audio.
Verify a transfer from an old library
Confirm that .tta files copied from an older music collection still decode.
Preview a track before converting
Listen to the source first so you know the audio is intact before you convert it to FLAC or MP3.
How to Use This Tool
Choose a TTA file
Click the upload area or drop a .tta file onto it.
Wait for the decoder
The first file loads the FFmpeg WebAssembly binary from a CDN. It stays loaded for the rest of the session.
Press play
Start playback to hear the decoded True Audio stream.
Seek through the track
Drag the progress control to jump to a position, or pause to stop where you are.
Pro Tips
- 1
TTA files are lossless, so they are larger than MP3 files. Large files take a few seconds longer to decode before playback starts.
- 2
If a file will not open, check that the extension matches the real format. A renamed FLAC or WAV file is not a TTA stream.
- 3
Playback is 16-bit stereo at 44.1 kHz, so a higher-resolution source is reduced to that format for listening.
- 4
Use the FLAC Player for .flac files, which the browser decodes without FFmpeg.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I open a TTA file?
Open the TTA Player in a browser, choose the .tta file, and press play. FFmpeg decodes the file in WebAssembly, so no codec pack is needed.
What is a TTA file?
A TTA file holds audio compressed with the True Audio lossless codec. It keeps every sample of the source recording, like FLAC, but uses a different format.
Is TTA better than FLAC?
Both are lossless, so the decoded audio is identical to the source. FLAC has far wider player and device support, which is why TTA files are often converted.
Why does a surround TTA file play in stereo?
The player downmixes every file to two channels so it sounds correct on ordinary headphones and speakers. The original file is not changed.
Does this player upload my TTA file?
No. FFmpeg runs in your browser, so the file is decoded on your device and is not sent to a server.
