Input
Enter CIELCH values (D65) to convert to sRGB. Out-of-gamut colors are clamped.
0 (Gray)150 (Most vivid)
0° (Magenta-red)360° (Magenta-red)
How it works: Converts CIELCH(ab) to sRGB in two steps: LCH to LAB with the D65 white point, then LAB to XYZ to linear RGB and through the sRGB gamma curve. Colors outside the sRGB gamut are clamped to 0 to 255.

What is LCH to RGB Converter?

The LCH to RGB Converter turns CIELCH values into sRGB channels. Enter lightness L*, chroma C*, and hue angle h, and read red, green, and blue from 0 to 255 with a color preview. When the color is too vivid for sRGB, the channels are clamped and the preview shows the nearest displayable color.

How does LCH to RGB Converter work?

The converter works in two stages. It first converts LCH to LAB with a* = C* cos(h) and b* = C* sin(h), then converts LAB to XYZ with the D65 white point, applies the sRGB matrix to get linear RGB, and finishes with the sRGB gamma curve.

sRGB covers only part of the LCH space. Pure blue has a chroma of about 134, and many combinations of high chroma and certain hues fall outside the gamut. For those, each channel is clipped to the 0 to 255 range, so the result is not the exact color you entered.

Key Features

  • Converts LCH to LAB, then to XYZ and sRGB
  • Uses the D65 white point and the sRGB gamma curve
  • Clamps out-of-gamut colors to 0 through 255
  • Chroma slider runs from 0 to 150
  • Live preview of the resulting sRGB color
  • Four preset colors that round-trip to Tailwind hex codes

Common Use Cases

When and why you might need this tool
  • Build a color scale by lightness

Step L* while holding chroma and hue fixed, then convert each step to RGB for use in a stylesheet.

  • Use an LCH design token on screen

Turn a token defined in LCH into RGB values for a tool that has no LCH support.

  • Check whether a color fits sRGB

Enter an LCH color and see whether the channels hit 0 or 255, which signals clipping.

  • Pick a color by hue angle

Choose a hue angle and chroma, then read the matching RGB channels for a chart or diagram.

How to Use This Tool

Step-by-step guide to get the best results
1

Enter L*, C*, and h

Use the sliders or type values. L* runs from 0 to 100, C* from 0 to 150, and h from 0 to 360 degrees.

2

Check the preview

The swatch shows the sRGB color that the channels produce.

3

Read the RGB channels

The result lists red, green, and blue as whole numbers from 0 to 255.

4

Spot clipping

A channel stuck at 0 or 255 often means the LCH color lies outside sRGB.

5

Copy the rgb() string

Copy the value into CSS, a design tool, or code.

Pro Tips

  • 1

Lower the chroma if a channel clips. Reducing C* while keeping L* and h usually gives the closest in-gamut color.

  • 2

L* is built to track perceived lightness, so equal L* steps look roughly evenly spaced, which equal RGB steps do not.

  • 3

The input is D65 LCH. CSS lch() uses D50, so the same numbers give a different color in a browser.

  • 4

Results are rounded to whole numbers, so converting back with the RGB to LCH Converter can differ by a small amount.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert LCH to RGB?

Convert LCH to LAB with the cosine and sine of the hue angle, then LAB to XYZ and to sRGB with the gamma curve. This tool performs every step and shows the RGB result.

Why does my LCH color give a flat or wrong RGB value?

The color is probably outside the sRGB gamut. The converter clamps each channel to 0 through 255, so the result is the nearest displayable color, not an exact match.

What is the highest chroma sRGB can show?

Pure blue reaches a chroma of about 134, and no sRGB color is higher. Most other hues reach less at their most saturated.

What RGB does LCH 55.63, 66.77, 285.23 give?

It gives RGB 59, 130, 246, which is the Tailwind blue-500 color.

Is this the same as the CSS lch() function?

No. CSS lch() is relative to a D50 white point, while this converter uses D65, so the numbers are not interchangeable.
